Not sure where the original photos I posted are...
Anyway, the second of the unknown plants, which Clare thought could be chicory, has been left to grow and flower.
Well, it's turned into a triffid!!
Is anyone familiar with it please? I'm pretty sure it's a no feed and needs to be dug out but just out of interest, I'd love to know what it is.

The original photo I posted:

What it's turned into:

It’s not chicory then?
I’ve just ordered a magic harp from eBay!

Ha ! well it could be a chicory bean ! The flower is yellow so can not see how it can be chicory but I still think the stalk size could be. It comes away rigid but my Horsfields chomp on chicory stalk and I can hear them a mile off when their beaks bite into it.

Some will know ! I still opt for Jack and the chicory, but magic chicory you can only get in Devon. CB

The flowers haven't opened yet but it could well be, Clare!
The tractors are up and down all day, every day, so it's not impossible for a seed to come flying over the wall into the garden but the field directly opposite us has only had maize, wheat and cows in it over the past couple of years, so it's definitely not one of those. Though a cow in the garden would be kind of cool... goes back to the cow being exchanged for the magic beans, ha!

Will let you know my verdict when the flowers open. I'll tell the hens to get laying double portions and you can all come for a fried egg sandwich.
