I have a feeling the heat in france and spain will envelope southern England gradually and raise by a degree or two, but Scotland will be colder towards Norway weather. (sorry Scotland). Swallows and Amazon summers Emma , its coming I can feel it in the air! CB

Keith this is really useful.
I haven't used the fridge method, but thinking about this for next year - or should I say later this year! I spent so much time checking temperatures at all hours this season. Is the egg cup significant? |

Ironically, I removed Jerry a few days early because he started to look quite dehydrated in week 7. I think this is because he didn't dig down into the soil/sand substrate and stayed as you see in the photo the whole time, but perhaps this is normal and with it being my first hibernation I erred on the side of caution. You can see I added lots of water bottles and this did keep the temps stable between 4.5 and 5.5 degrees throughout the hibernation, except for when I opened the door (it went up to about 5.8 then). Though it is quite daunting Jan, (it just seems wrong to put your animal in the fridge), I did feel that I had an element of control over the situation, which of course we don't with the good old British weather. I did miss the fella' though.

Thanks Keith. I will start thinking about hibernation over the summer so that I am well prepared. I think you detected my inner feelings about putting my torts in the fridge!

He has three padlocks on his outdoor run. Maybe I'll train him up!
