Wow! He has trashed his enclosure hasn't he? lol
Personally I would ditch the newspaper, put a bit of plastic lining down and just use topsoil, which would keep the plastic lining in place aswell. Bet he will love being able to dig down when you've got the sterilised top soil. Good luck xxx

Just a thought. I wonder if he's rampaging around because he's used to living in a viv which would be quite warm. And now he is in a table he might be trying to dig down to get warmer.
What temperature is the hot end?

I would have it all soil and hay in 1 corner, away from the heat source.

If you still want to line it with something I use pond liner, much harder to rip apart and if you seal the corners it stops any water spill dripping out
Just an idea

She has been on chat and has been asking lots of questions though to try and change this...
We have all given advice on the substrate, types of lighting...fixtures. Shes created another post in the Med Tort section...and was just panicking on what to do...again, I dont think she was given much good advice and the tort was kept in a 2 x3 ft viv and is 9 years old. She rescued it. All this can be sorted as from now. The work starts now. There is nothing that can be done at this time of night anyway - best to let him sleep and then work at the enclosure tommorow by starting with the basics, then working up. Just my little 2pence worth.. xx |

Hi, ok well to start with he needs to be off the floor out of drafts , the best substrate for horsfields is top soil as they like to dig , you also need to provide a basking area by using a lamp set at 34/6c beneath it and a cool end of 20c at night 15c will be ok , he also needs a water bowl 24/7. hope this helps to start with.
