Lightbulb Coco Coir

Hi all,

I was recently thinking about changing the substrate for my Little Heisenberg.
He is a little Horsefield and I have seen a few people on here liking the use of Coco Coir.

I was wondering how manageable it was and what needs to be done with it after you buy the blocks from a place like IKEA?

Does it need soaking in water etc? How much?

Thanks

Andi

I find it a lot easier to water and change it, I just scoop it out into a carrier bag and throw in the bin as it is so lightweight.

You break the block up with your hands so their ar no lumps then pour hot water on, not too much tho, and mix in to a consistency that is not too wet but slightly damp then your ready to go I find it great to deal with

I like the loose stuff, run you hands through it when its nice and warm, doesn't look like a monster....but it does have a monkey picture on the front. Do monkeys eat coconuts? I suppose they do. with a straw and some Malibu I suspect ! CB

I use it and found the best value at a store called home bargains. If you have one near you.

It is a 10 litre Coco Compact Potting Compost Eco Block by Smart Garden.

They are solid but readily absorb water. I found it works better with hot water and expands to 10 litre. Full instructions are given on the pack.

Just add more water if the brick does not fully expand.

It does dry out but I water often to keep the humidity up.
