New terrapin.
Hi all, we bought a terrapin today, bit of a rescue job.
I think she's a yellow belly slider from what I can find online. Brought her home with all the kit (tank, filter, heater, lamp, air pump etc) and now she's in but not settling. I'm putting it down to her stressful afternoon and hoping she'll chill out a bit after a while. Does anyone here keep the same breed of Terrapin?.

Thanks, yeah will do when he stays still long enough. He seems to be trying to 'escape' through the front of the tank. I know with torts that they dont understand the concept of glass. Are terrapins the same?. Probably a stupid question but it does look like it's doing his head in.
Have ascertained that he is a yellow bellied slider btw.

We've just changed his name too. He's now called Alan

We have several species of turtles/terrapins.
As has been said, if you post a picture or two we can give an id. |

Just leaving him alone tonight. He seems really stressed, not surprisinly. Will get some pics up in the next day or two.

Assuming I've done it right here's some pictures of Alan. He's chilled out tonight and is acting 'normally'. He's eating, basking, swimming and sleeping. We think he's a male even though the people we got him off said he was female.

Alan is a male Yellow bellied slider, Trachemys scripta scripta. Your going to need a bit more water in the tank and probably a bigger tank. You should have at least a foot of water. A good rule of thumb is 40L per inch of turtle, when it comes to tank size.
