I sprout Mung beans and cress as well as Alfalfa so i will try it with my tort and let you know if he likes it. I will have to order some first though. I don't know if torts can eat Mung bean sprouts (AKA bean shoots) or not, I presume not as they are from beans and therefore will contain lots of protein, I give it to my parrots and guinea pigs, oh and I sometimes let the family have some.

An extract from a list of foods for birds. (or not)

Avocado is highly toxic and fatal to your bird. Rhubarb, Olives, Aubergine (Egg Plant), Asparagus, Chocolate, are extremely toxic too. Avoid anything containing Caffeine (being allowed to partake in a regular sip of Tea or Coffee can eventually lead to cardiac problems and in certain cases can also lead to hyper-activity), Butter (because of its pure fat content), anything containing Alcohol (its not clever), Milk or Cream in large quantities.

Here is the seed sprouter I use.

If you add a little calcium it would be a good balance, natural calcium to phosphorus is 0.5:1.
I would'nt feed a lot of Bok choy, the potassium is sky high, and salt(sodium) is medium.

they had the Alfalfa sprouts 99p a bag in the co-op last winter, never looked to see since. My wife was getting them for herself as she had read something about them being good against breast cancer but then we read something else saying they are or can be toxic what's good one week is no good the next

I thought they were too high in something or other for torts, like mung bean sprouts?

I thought sprouts were bad on all counts...
However I am quite partial to the little bags of compressed air, myself!
Very nice with my Xmas dinner
((I did give Lily 2 last Xmas as a treat....I faired worse then he did! )
Anyway....so, winter veg......back on the subject.
