Exclamation How did ideal basking temp come about?

I know the "ideal" basking spot temp is recommended to be around 32. But does anyone know where this came from or how this temp was arrived at?
I could go and search but just wondered if anyone knew or had any information, please x

Mmmm, could be Paul
Was just thinking of all the different ways things are done in tort keeping and not many come up with the same answer, eg food, substrate, hibernation, humidity, etc, etc. Many variations and ways of doing things. But the "ideal" temp always, in my experience anyway, comes back at 32. Just wondered why

That just seems to be the temperature at which they feed properly and are able to digest at the correct speed.Guess it's a result of combined experience over the years based as Paul says on kind of temps which prevail in the Med.
