Bearing in mind that unlike the programme, your friends will have shelled out their own dosh for the food so I personally wouldn't scrimp.
I'd be most peeved if I went to a dinner party and was served Smash - can't you use proper spuds and call it "posh smash" If you used really good ingredients e.g. big prawns, not the piddly frozen ones that were in many a prawn cocktail in the 80's, it could work. As a veggie, I'm interested to see how you're going to make a veggie Kiev

I think it sounds very interesting and a lot of fun, what time do you want me round lol...
At the end of the day Sasha I assume you are doing this for a bit of fun, not to win any prizes, I think the 80's is a great idea. It should be a right giggle... |

Oh god no, definitely no prizes! Just a very good excuse for a group of us to get together once every couple of months to catch up, as everyone has moved away from each other and have very busy lives.
I will definitely be doing the large prawns in the starter, they will look a lot more fancy, and I quite like the idea of "posh smash" being on the menu! The veg kievs are really nothing that resembles a chicken kiev, but the OH seemed to enjoy it on the test run: - http://www.familyoven.com/offsite?r_...aar.com/114559 I shall let you know how it all pans out!!

Mmm I will give that veggie kiev recipe a bash myself, just wondering what I could use instead of celery as I hate the stuff.
Back to your party - don't forget the cocktails! Pina Coladas and other creamy concoctions were huge in the 80's
