Teachers code of conduct!
I'm just waiting to watch the debate about teachers conduct outside school hours on the BBC. (A new 'Code of Conduct' will come into force in October and many teachers feel it is unfair and have started a petition against it.)
I just wondered what your thoughts are on teachers being able to 'let their hair down' in their own time

Dont see why not, wheres the harm, it shouldn't effect the pupils, why would the pupils know, their not old enough to be in pubs/clubs etc anyway, teachers gotta let off steam just like the rest of us, I would mind if said teachers turned up to class intoxicated or worse for ware, there's a line that you learn not to cross and that's with all industries and in that case there would need to be disciplinary action,

ok im not a teacher, i am an adult mental health manager, i and others in my work place have a code of conduct outside of work hours, i for one can/should not be in a pub for instance getting drunk when i am aware of clients there,
it could be seen as socially drinking with them, if they get drunk, cause a scene, get ill and its found i am in the same building, aware whats going on but also drinking and not sorting it, then part blame lies with me. it s a complex issue for us, one we can not get around, so if i am ever out in town with my friends, i either do not drink in that pub if a client is in, or i move on to drink else where, |

I do think that late nights/drink on a weekday don't go with doing a good days work, weekends are different but I've worked where other staff have been out through the week and come in late/can't do their job properly even had them fall asleep over their work, plus don't teachers have 'homework'for the next day? marking books etc. So I suppose maybe I'm old fashioned but if you want to do well at your job and set a good example whatever job it is then drinking etc is for the weekends, plus don't they say that drink can stay in your system well into the next day so it wouldn't be very nice to smell stale drink or see bleary eyes, short tempers in a teacher in the mornings.

<sigh> yet another attempt for people to play 'God'
I am not a teacher, I am an LSA. I also have a life that is not governed by my role at work... I go to work, do a job, get paid and walk away. I am not paid outside work hours. I do as I please, when I please and I will do whatever I want to do outside those working hours. I am sick of being dictated to. Show me one single person who can tell you that they have never done anything wrong, never made a mistake, never broken a speed limit, and claims to be a saint, and I will show you a liar! Teachers are not perfect... they are paid to do a job, and as long as they are fullfilling their role, anything that goes on is their business.

Ps... mmaybe we should try and impose the same rules on Government officials, policemen, traffic wardens, bar staff, students, lawyers, doctors, nurses, etc etc. In fact why dont we just ban alcohol and freedom of rights while we are at it too?
<gets off soapbox>
