How are yours coping?
Hi all
Just wondering how your tortoises are coping in this heat? I found one of my graecas sitting in the shade of the birdbath this morning<g> not sure she would realise the shadow would move with the sun. One of my greenhouses at eight oclock this morning showed 38 degrees, that was without lights on. So I knew it was going to be a hot day.

Hi Sandy, My torts are eating early in the morning then they are in the shade till late in the afternoon, when they come back out to eat again. I set their food out late last night, and to my amazement , my largest Ibera came out of a sleep to start eating at approx. 9.00pm!!! ...Infact this morning one of my torts spent approx. 30 minutes digging a nest, only to abandon it, I think because of the heat, I knew I should have set up a large umbrella over her for shade, she may resume this evening ?...T.T. 8)

Sounds like you need a gazebo TT<G> you could leave that up for some shade for them.

There is a lot of natural shade, but the gazebo sounds like a good idea ...T.T. 8)

I actually cant believe my graecas choose to go back into the greenhouse, in this heat.
I leave the window and door open. But its still so hot in there. Even my iberas stay in the coldframe. So I have to open all four slidy panes to allow some air flow.
