Every year we have a discussion about where the tree is going and then we have to rearange various pets to accommodate it. The kids get all excited when it's due to go up, these kids being 24, 20, 17 and 11, then when it's been up for 2 days it's down to me to wrestle with it to reach the switch to turn on the lights, then I have to crawl on hands and knees to find that damned little box and press the button 7 times to stop them doing various annoying flashing sequences that can drive you to kill. The best bit is when it comes down and the room looks so much bigger and tidier. I love it really.

We have a pile of cards lying in a heap on the table. We got a card yesterday through the post from someone we had forgot about so they won't be getting one back. We have had a card from people we don't even know and they don't even know us and I think the kids next door are on speed. I heard that the shops were horrendous yesterday - sold out of bread and milk and most other stuff last night apparently. Even the crap types of bread that nobody buys had gone

We have spent £240 on food for 2 days and we haven't even paid for our meat or bought the veg yet. Our beef is going to be about £30, that's without the chicken for the fussy buggers. Stupid money I know and every year we say we're not going to go mad but we always do and the food lasts way into the new year. The whole of Christmas must have cost over 2 grand with presents. I hate Christmas.

My bearded dragon is climbing around in my tree as I type, at least someone's enjoying it.

I won't be having chicken but we got stuffed chicken breast for £3.49 in a foil tray out of farmfoods, mccain roast potatoes for £1, frozen peas we already had, frozen carrot and swede mash we already had, gravy we already had, potatoes for mashing 99p, trifle still to be bought, might be too late or big queues if so tin of rice pudding in cupboard
my wife is easily pleased. she's getting her first christmas day off in 6 years so doesn't want to spend it cooking and it's only her that will be eating it and my son when he comes in from work |

I love my tree!! It stays up until New Year's Day and then is the last thing to come down. The whole lot goes away New Years Eve/Day as I hate it up beyond the 1st January.
I absolutely love the week between Christmas and New Year. The kids just play and watch films, I skim over the housework and eat and relax more than usual. It's the only week in the entire year I can just let go, relax a tad on the housework and stuff myself silly. It wouldn't be the same if the tree wasn't up!
