Free range are more expensive, but what cost can you put on the suffering these hens go through? They spend 18 months of their lives in cages with floor space no bigger than an A4 piece of paper often 2 to a cage. They are fed chemicals to make them lay 2 or more eggs a day, those chemicals are in the eggs that you eat. When they are no longer "useful" as layers, ie when they are too ill or have slowed down laying eggs, at around 18 months, they are loaded into vans and taken to factories, where they have their throats cut and are made into pet food. They never see real daylight or breath fresh air.
Just a word of warning, do not believe the ads for "The happy egg company" it's not true, they are being investigated by the RSPCA for the way the hens are kept, Google it and you will be shocked.

It's awful to see the state of those poor creatures in that vid, when you see the ad on TV you would think they live like gods.

I used to buy Happy Egg company eggs until I found out different. I don't understand why it is legal to keep battery hens in this country.
