Second chance for tortoise!
Over Christmas this year I received a call from a friend of mine saying that someone had just donated two tortoises to the children’s zoo at which he works. As this was the same friend who called me a week earlier to ask what substrate does a 'leopard print' tortoise need, I offered to pop round to give him some advice, and see just what he had been given.
Upon seeing the awful condition of the two Hermann tortoises I convinced my friend that they would be better off with me over the winter. Sadly after a period where both tortoises seemed to improve Lumpy’s (as I have now called him) companion died. I decided to take some photographs not to show what can go wrong if these beautiful animals don’t get the basic environmental and dietary requirements, but to document Lumpy’s road to recovery. Fingers crossed I hope he’ll be with me for some time yet if people are interested I'll keep you updated. |

Great photos but it is sad. Do we know what the 'wrong' care was that caused this?

Poor thing!!! I am sure with the correct diet and husbandry he will now come on in leaps and bounds. His shell will improve with time.

Could this have been caused by a high protein diet?

OMG why oh why do people take on these prehistoric friends of ours & then not care for them correctly. Thank God its now in your care but I am sosorry the otherone passed away.
I would love to be kept informed as to his progress, so more info and pics would be most welcome. Sue |
