Do you place paper round Jerry? I may have missed that. I place mine on top and they bury down and when its time to wake up they come up for air...

if it were Tarquin I would be checking the levels of the lemonade too. I am not joking.

No, I just placed him on top as you see in the photo. I did hope he would bury down but he didn't at all. Maybe the temperature was just fine as he was. I'm not even sure the outer box and paper was necessary but added it as insulation against temp fluctuations, perhaps the mass of the soil would have been sufficient for this.
He is strange, although he has sufficient depth in his table he hardly ever buries down..this must be down to temps...When he's outside?...Well. that's a different story altogether....

For any tortoise to bury down properly, they need drops in temperature at night when inside. Outside they will bury down if it gets too hot for them, or again if temps drop drastically.
