Hermann Hatchling Help
Hi Thanks To Sky I have found a local breeder that has hatchlings due mid July =D After they've hatched I should get one a couple of weeks later. Was just wondering if there's anything I need/Don't need that I would have with one a bit older?
He/she will be a Testudo hermanni boettgeri. Thanks x |

Personally I would not purchase one that young as they can often take a while to eat and not all thrive at first or even survive. I will not sell any tort until they are coming up for a year old then I know for certain that they are growing well and will survive.
Personally I think a breeder who sells at that age does not have the interests of the animal at heart. Regarding different treatment I always bathe every day till feeding well and kept in a small area so they cannot get away from the food. After around 3 months I will allow them into more permanent quarters. I also add calcium to the water.

I got my Hermanns when she was 6weeks old. She'll be a year in 2 weeks. She's very active, eats well, and is growing steadily.
I'm not sure what you'd do different to an older tort but what i would sugest is make sure you bath her everyday if possible, and offer a good variety of weeds from the start =] x |
