Unhappy im being blonde, please advise!

Ive been having a look at this site- http://www.britishcheloniagroup.org....ts/jackson.htm and trying to work it out, but i dont get it for eg it says measure the weight in grams, then measure the length (scl) calculate the weight divided by the length. so 48g divided by 6cm = 8 !!!! i jst dont get it!
  • less than 0.16: An underweight tortoise needing special care.
  • of 0.17: Light for hibernation, unless an active male, or an animal with unusually flared scutes.
  • of 0.19: Normal, and safe to hibernate
  • of 0.21: A very good weight, ideal condition.
  • of above 0.23: Possibly too heavy, check for puffiness (water retention)

If I remember rightly the calculation is weight in grams divided by length x length x length (in centimetres to one decimal place)

So the calculation for a 10.5CM Tortoise weighing 250 grams would be

250 divided by 1157.625 (10.5x10.5x10.5) = 0.21

It's quite a good guide to use for general Hermann and Ibera tortoise weights not just hibernation but like the rest it is just a guideline.

48g divided by 6x6x6 you need to cube the lengths
48g divided by 216
answer 0.22

"0.17: Light for hibernation, unless an active male, or an animal with unusually flared scutes."

This sentence is new by the way.

I was going to say a lot of my males always come out on the light side using his method. I put it down to activity and a less domed shell.
