Have not given up on our feathered friends - the Eclectus parrots have their new block on the other side of the garden

Thanks again

How do your goldens do outside Lynne? I know they are prone to the sniffles and don't like cold and damp, so was wondering how Layla gets on outside? X

Layla in particular was glad to get in, became a totally different tort - one of the pictures shows her basking, she's usually quite shy! She is a sun worshipper - few rays and she's out of the greenhouse, all 4 legs splayed to their limit
I have a "plastic" lidded container for her in her section of the greenhouse with a heat mat in (piece of board on top) - that goes on if the temperature is likely to fall below about 12c as she gets miserable and as you say, quick to get sniffles. Have to remember to turn it off in the morning tho otherwise she would stay in bed all day! Bought a couple of cheap MVBs saw on ebay (Real Sun?) Put one of those in for her recently as her inside pen was not ready - that made a huge difference to her activity, mind you, it is 160w lol: Hamish & Harri(et) are still in the house with me in their rabbit cage, just going out on the hot days. They have grown a bit this year, so will be looking to move them out to greenhouse in spring. Do have a pen for the in the new tortoise block, but waiting to see how it works out temperature wise before they take up residence

Thanks John!

We have made allowance for virtually everything as we are on the side of a mountain in Wales The spots were some units we had hanging around from when we did the house up and we thought we would put them in "just in case". (Torts don't seem to mind a bit of bling!) In actual fact, the heat mats (under board) provide a little warmth through the night, the polycarbonate roof is maximising the sunshine, it's presently 22 degrees in there, so all torts are quite happy with just their UV unit on. Well impressed Just waiting for the temperature to drop sufficiently, at a convenient time, to set the thermostat on their oil filled radiator

Thank you, it's just that I read some information that the goldens shouldn't go below 60f day and night, (but I'm just learning about them) but if your Layla does well at lower temps then that's ok, all my goldens are indoors, females and babies in my bedroom and the adult in my sitting room, the adult and juveniles will go outside in a shed/greenhouse next year but will keep babies indoors and only put them out on hot days until they get older x
