Henry ID!
Hiya,
Could anyone identify Henry for me? I'm sure he's a completely obvious type of tortoise but, being a complete beginner, please humour me! Please excuse all the hands. This pic was taken at my daughter's 2nd birthday and he was star attraction! It's amazing how many children have never seen a REAL tortoise! |

Hi Henry looks like a mediterranean spurthighed tortoise(testudo graeca ) also Henry appears to be female from the overall shape but this can be better clarified and also a more accurate id if we can have a photo of Henrys tail/vent area and perhaps a closer look at her head.
Also for a 100% id on Henry you can email her picture to Andy Highfield on the tortoise trust start page http://www.tortoisetrust.org/ Darren

Hi,
I'm not good at identification, but just wanted to say that Henry is a lovely tortoise! Aside from the dent (which you mentioned on the other thread), his shell is really smooth, and he does look like he's a good age. Your parents must treasure him! Nina |

Hiya,
Sorry, huge apologies for not replying to this... How RUDE of me... No I haven't gotten around to emailing the pic yet. I will though. I don't think I have any other pics of HER (thats weird... been years saying 'him'!) . She's hibernating at the moment so I can't get any other pics. I don't think my parents are really that worried what type of tortoise she is! lol. They're so in love with 'him' that as long as 'he's' healthy, thats the main thing. She follows my Mum around the garden, much to my Mum's delight. They don't have any other pets and all the children have left home now, so you can only imagine how well this tortoise is treated!!!! However, it would be handy to know for definite what type she is so that I can make sure they're giving her the right diet. They only feed what the old guy said... but he said 'she' was a 'he'... so.... Anyway, thanks again and I'll email the pic asap, if you don't mind, I'll name-drop and say you said to email it! lol. Verity (skewbald) x ps. sorry to confuse with all the 'him/her stuff'! |
