Unhappy My Other Egg Pics Added

What do we think? I'd rather know the worst really even though I am very sad.

Do they ever go much over 70 days?

I haven't seen it move

Hi Bindi

It looks like an egg thats very close to hatching to me. *I started marking the areas I thought was yolk sac with a pencil so I could check if it was decreasing. If it is, the babies alive.*
I didnt see much movement late on in mine, I figured the embryo spends a great deal of time resting up.

I also saw some early scratching away of the inner membrane, some hatched fine, some didn't.*

Very late on I could feel the tortoise moving around if I picked the egg up.*
Its tough not to intervene. I lost one half way out this year and i broke open a late egg which contained a deformed but alive tortoise that could not have broken out.

Dont know much about the duration for Iberas but I've read of up to 18 days between first and last. It never says whether the first was early or on time though. Your first one was early wasn't it?

Wink

I too rarely ever see them move at this stage, not unless there are cracks on the egg surface just before they pip. Just hang in there and don't expect the worst straight away.

You can just about make out where the baby is within the egg. Can you see any blood vessels on the yolk sac?

Hi Bindi,

I too agree that it could be close to hatching. I know I haven't even had a tortoise yet but I used to breed parrots and they could be just as weird as this. I think that they just like to keep us on our toes.

I had this too with pretty much all my developing eggs. Figured it's something to do with calcium being drawn from the egg shell by the embryo perhaps?
