Please help
I came home from work tonight and my thermostat on my central heating has broken with the weather being so cold this has had an impact on the temp in the larder fridge which has Tinky and Louis hibernating in. They have been in for 4weeks, Louis had moved, I couldn't
get the temp up so decided it was best to get them up. This was at 6.00. I put them both under the lights and have bathed in warm water, Tinky is fine Louis isn't responding very well seems completely drained of energy very limp responses, Last years hibernation went fine, I'm trying not panic but it doesn't feel right, any help appreciated Boo |

Hi Boo,
I had to wake my torts up in a hurry so I can only really relay what I did. It sounds like you're doing the right things. If your tortoise is unresponsive it might be worth moving it a little away from the hottest spot under the light in case its not able to move itself at the moment. I used an electric fan heater to warm the air around the tortoises as well, keeping an eye on it wth a thermometer. They responded well to a warm bath, maybe its worth trying another one just for the warmth rather than the liquid. Sincerley hope your tortoise is ok. |

I'd keep him within the rays of the light, still warm, just not directly under the hottest spot. The light is a stimulus as well as the heat. Hopefully he's just a bit groggier than your other one. I'm having a quick scoot round some other sites see if I can find anything that might help.

When you get tortoises up from hibernation, its better to put them into a normal room temperature for an hour (depending on the size of tortoise longer for an adult) so they gradually warm up. Then put them near a heat lamp for another half an hour to an hour. Then put them under the lamp.
When a tortoise comes out of hibernation they do it gradually. Sorry I couldnt answer before.
