Help - New Owners
Hi we have recently bought a horsefield tortoise from a local pet shop. It was sold with a table set up. The lady in the shop said she had lots of her own tortoises and she appeared very knowledgable. However we are now wondering if this really is the case. Our tortoise sleeps a lot!!! And he has developed black marks/stains??? around his mouth. The inside of his mouth is still pink and he is feeding small amounts each day. He looks very dry and flakey on his face? We bathe him twice a week as advised. Any ideas or advice would be very gratefully appreciated. We have had lots of contradictory advice from two different pet shops and have currently spent £350+ buying everything that has been advised.

sleepy could be down to too hot or too cold but could also be just down to being in a new home. black marks around the mouth could be just down to what it's been eating or drinking. dry and flaky skin is usually just normal, sometimes more than others. bathing every day for 10-15 mins would be better when they are little. all in all there's nothing out of the ordinary appears to be going on
