Everyone *could* be wrong! Can we really ever say for sure what species/sub-species a tortoise is without DNA testing?

If that is the case then we should all stop breeding until such time?(I dont breed but got eggs from a tort that was bred).
Surely the ID guides are pretty accurate, if not why have them? Why not tell people that we do not know for sure? Why insist on seperating subspecies if we dont know they are?

Oh I am more confused now?? quote " if these have been together for sometime why seperate them?" I thought mixing species/subspecies was a no no!
