Project Outside Tortoise Run!
Well, after much thought and a lot of hard graft (in the awful weather we've had this weekend), our outdoor enclosure for the Horsfields is almost complete. Thought it might be nice to show you all the pics of it in its varying stages of completion. We still have a few bits and bobs to do such as attaching the coldfame to the side, putting a few inches of soil in the hut and maybe scattering a few more rocks/stones here or there, but basically this is it - comments/ideas for improvement are welcome. Now we just need nice enough weather to pop them out in! Oh, and I mustn't forget to thank my lovely boyfriend for doing all of the hard and heavy stuff like building and sinking the base, cutting and attaching the log roll, digging out the lawn etc
Digging out the lawn and shovelling out a few inches of soil Sinking in the base which we attached chicken wire to Here the rabbit run is attached to the base and log roll put around the sides Filled with top soil, the hut goes in and the landscaping starts The water, stone/rock area is added Finally the plants are popped in What do you all reckon? |

Well done, it's great to see someone taking the time to make a decent area for their lovely torts.
Just one thought and that is that the log rolls finish before the shed, leaving an area of wire. Could you put some wood over this wire otherwise you may find that they damage their legs trying to get through the wire. Brilliant

Hiya Jonesy. I think the bit you mean can be seen in the last photo on the left? We've left the log roll off that bit on purpose as that's where the cold frame will be attached to the run (next job). The idea is to make an opening in the side of the run which leads straight through to the cold frame (which will be mounted on slabs and then filled with soil). Not sure I've explained myself all that well, lol, but hope that clarifies the reason for the missing log roll! Thanks very much for your comments : ) If it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have had a clue where to start!
