Unhappy im totally heartbroken.

Last night the worst thing that could happen happened.
I got a phone call at 12am from my mum saying 1 of my redfoots had died =( under her lamp =(

My mum had left them for 10 mins and wen she went to check on them it was too late
I am absolutely devasteted and cant come to terms with it at all i feel so guilty and useless

I wanted to come on and write this post just to make sure everyone checks on their lamps as i didnt know this could happen so quickly

I feel like absolite crap and im going to leave this forum until the new year and im considering giving up my tortoises as i feel like an unfit keeper, at the moment i cant bear to go in to my tortoise room.

I also want to say sorry to darren- piglet and chris who bred these gorgeous tortoises i am so sorry and im going to have this horrible feeling for the rest of my life.

christmas in my house is definately cancelled.

Lindsey

Im so sorry lindso....I cant imagine how you are feeling. It wasnt your fault though....dont give up your torts- its obvious that you love them so much and care for them very well! What happened with the lamp? Did it break or something?

Thinking of you xx

So sorry Linds, but what are you saying has happened to the lamp. It certainly wasn't your fault though. People leave there tort's all day to go to work etc. You certainly cannot watch over them every minute.

Helloo please please dont give up

It happens to most keepers. I remember when i lost my first one i wanted to give up, rehome everything. But you need to give yourself time

PLEASE DONT GIVE UP

I know this is a silly question but are you sure its dead, some tortoises like playing dead.

Hi Linds,

So sorry to hear your sad news, dont blame yourself, sometimes these things happen.

You cant be with them 24 hours a day. Accidents do happen thats nature, it wont make you feel any better regarding your loss but you must not give up on the others you have or beat yourself up about it.

The best thing you can do is try and find out how it happened and how to stop it ever happening again.

Big hugs from me.xx

Oh Linds I am so sorry to hear about your tort, but it is not your fault. I leave my tort on his own for hours and hours on end. Please don't give up, you are a brilliant keeper. Big hugs x

I was out for a meal and my mum came in from work. she put the lamps on for me as she always does, and the phone rang and it was my brother whose havin a bit of a crisis at the moment. my dad got in from work about half an hour later, checked on them, and she had flipped over under the lamp
I have stones so thay can right themselves and iv nver seen either of them do it before.
My dad instantly gave her a bath to see if she was moving and nothing.
Iv givin her a warm bath and nothing at all
Im not sure how else i can check and its breaking my heart lookin at her.
