Question Do you prepare stinging nettles

Hello i was just having a look a while ago on the tortoise table and had seen some stinging nettles and i saw that they were edible but it didn't take my fancy to pick them. Recently though i have seen some starting to pop up and was wandering whether you have to prepare them in any way before giving them to the tort so it doesn't sting their tongue.

I don't use them, I feed Dead Nettle instead. I believe the stinging variety can be slightly toxic to the kidneys, and who wants to risk being stung picking them anyway, lol.

Apparently, and I haven't done this, nettles when very young and pale green do not sting. This is how nettles should be picked for human consumption in dishes such as nettle soup.

Personally I'd try picking the tiny pale green ones, but wear rubber gloves for safety!

I dont think it's wise to feed stinging nettles IMO..as mentioned above. Dead Nettle - square stem, usually has White flowers growing on it - edible. Doesn't sting. But why feed stinging nettles... they um, sting??
Still..each to their own xx

My torts don't eat stinging or dead nettles but I believe they don't need to be prepared. I've never found anybody who's torts actually eat stinging ones (and not many or any that eat dead nettles either)

no doubt someone will now say their tort eats them
