Coco coir @ Oxfam
I know quite a few people use coco coir as substrate and many buy it cheap from Ikea, but those of you like me who don't live anywhere near an Ikea might be interested to know that you can get blocks from Oxfam.
It's £2.49 for a block that makes 9 litres and is fairtrade so that's also a nice bonus I'm yet to give it a try, planning on cleaning out Hecate's table at the weekend, have been using top soil up til now but have been wanting to have a go with the coir! |

Ooh that's great. Fair trade, giving to charity at the same time, what could be better? That's about the same price as ikea too, so not out of pocket for supporting other causes either xx

I have been using Coco Coir all summer.
In my opinion its great when wet/damp but it's incredibly dusty when dry. It also made me cough because of the dust. I had to water it EVERY day which worried me as my torts where bedding down in very damp/wet substrate every night & day. I am going to go back to fine woodchips when they come out of hibernation. This is just my opinion. sue |

I've never used wood chips. I mist it every day and water it once a week maybe twice x

http://www.traidcraftshop.co.uk/p-12...line-shop.aspx Though they do charge for delivery unless you buy a ridiculous amount! I always buy the fair trade option when I can so very pleased to find this |
