Default Cross breed question.

Just had a random thought.

Say if you were to successfully cross breed two tortoises that require a10's would the hatchlings need a10's?

When you say cross breed what do you mean?
You shouldn't be mixing species.....

People mix speicies all the time, I know of a few on here and other groups and forums that do too.

I'm talking about a hermann and a spur thigh, and other similar breeds ect.

It's been done in the past with sulcata and leopards but got me thinking about torts that require a10's. There's even someone on this forum with a Leo sully cross.

I guess it would depend on what you say they are Raina. There were quite a few people a while back on the forum that had bought Marginated hatchling with no plastral pattern. They were hybrids (3/4 Marginated and 1/4 spur thigh). The breeder got a10s for them as Marginateds. I'm not sure what DEFRA would say if you wanted to get a10s for say Marginated/Spur thigh hybrid hatchlings. Might be worth someone asking DEFRA what they'd do.

With just keeping red foots I do not require A10's but am I correct in thinking DEFRA do not recognise on the papers different subspecies?

I was told not to keep different species together due to the risk of cross infection.
Does this mean it's possible to keep Hermanns and Horsfields together then?

We attended a local group meeting and the Vet was quite definite that species should not be mixed. One of the main reason being that it can make underlying illnesses (quite often Herpes) suddenly emerge due to the stress etc.

Several people on this Forum say that it is perfectly acceptable to do so, but in view of the above and from the comments I have read I certainly would not do it.
