Default Best breed for small(ish) apartment

Looking for some advice on suitable breeds for a tort that will be living indoors in a smallish apartment. The apartment is ground floor and there is plenty of space for him/her to be outside a decent amount of the time. However I do want to house him/her inside.

I would say a horsfield (but I am biased) but they need lots of room and outdoor space, if you stick to just one small breed tortoise should be ok, as long as they can spend time outside during the summer months. Others may suggest the best breed of tortoise as I only have horsfields x

Yeah having him/her outside a decent chunk of the time during summer months wont be a problem. Just wouldn't really feel comfortable leaving him/her outside overnight in the location I'm at.

one thing if its a shared garden I'd be very wary of leaving the tort outside by itself

What about an Indian star, they don't grow to big and are best kept indoors in the uk, due to weather not being warm enough (except occasionally) & of course they don't hibernate either so will be with you all year around (can be a challenge to find weeds in winter tho but salad leaves with grass & dried weeds added works well) x

The smallest tort would be Testudo Hermanni Hermanni, but they are not easy to find, they are quite rare. They must go outside in the summer, and have a decent amount of space. I always bring mine in at night, under lock and key.

Testudo Hermanni Hermanni are not the smallest tort is the Speckled Padlopper I think but you would very, very rarely find these. What about the Egyptian or Pancake or as above Testudo Hermanni Hermanni? However, all of these aren't cheap so you'll need quite a bit of cash. Your best bet is probably Horsfields, but they WILL need outdoor access.

I disagree here. All torts IMO should have outdoor access when the weather warms up. There is no 'indoor tortoise'.

I have to agree with Flintus.

There is no such thing as an indoor tortoise. It's cruel to have them cooped up indoors 24/7 365 days of the year.

Agreed. Even one hour a day of sunlight is better than 10 hours of UVB. I may not get my red foots out that often, maybe around 50-75
days a year but I'll get them out whenever the temps allow.
