Default 160W bulb to much for a 4 foot enclosure?

I was just wondering if a 160W bulb will be too hot for a 4 foot by 2 foot table? I have a 160W bulb at the moment (which has blown now) but I got it from someone else who used a larger enclosure than me.

I saw an Exo Terra 125W bulb that I thought might be more suitable.

Thanks!

In my opinion, yes. I think more go for a 120w Mega Ray or the like, or a 125w Solar Glo. In my opinion, for a smallish table, 160w- is too intense a heat for torty to escape from and for you to maintain a good hot/cool gradient. See what others think.. xx Good Luck PS - yes, that 125w Exo Terra ones would be better suited I think.

I think it is - but you can always measure the basking temp to check. The 125W sounds like a better option.

Ive got a 125w solar glo in a 4ft x 2ft in 1 enclosure and a 120w mega ray in a 5ft x 3ft enclosure and temps frm about 29-35 degrees. So probably the 125w would be best.

Agree withe the others, I think a 160w would be too much and you'd struggle to get a cooler end

Yes 125w be okay but they are not all the same, the 160w Arcadia I have is designed to run at a lower heat

The 125 watt ones blow quickly, there is no soft start. If you don't mind changing them no problem. Otherwise elevate the 160 watt lamp higher and focus it with a narrow beam reflector. I use the 160 lamps and have them suspended 40 cm high to get 26-28 degrees & a little lower for mediteranian species. J

I have a 125w solar glo still going after 19 months though it hasn't been in constant use for that period. The UVB is all but worthless on it now though
