Hi I'm Dan the forums' new web host.

I run a shed load of forums and have some pretty cool custom setups on servers specifically for hosting forums.

I live in Staffordshire so local to the HQ of SW. I offered to help when I clocked the forum was down a bit ago and only just managed to get on it over Xmas else we might have been up and running sooner than now.

Been troubleshooting and fixing for the last couple of days on and off and it all seems perfect now so fingers crossed you're fine from here on.

My forums are mostly construction industry related (so have to deal with your average 'builders' on a daily basis which can be fun) or automotive which is more of a hobby than a job. I'd bet you 10 quid one or two of you here have been on a forum of mine before now if you've been looking for DIY advice with regards to plumbing, tiling, plastering or electrical stuff.

Anyway, thought I'd say hi as I heard a couple wondered who I was.

Stick to the usual channels for reporting bugs or glitches and I'll pick up the issue ASAP if it can't be sorted by your good management team you have here.

Probably worth saying I know nothing about the little green monsters you all love so I'll avoid any topical threads in case I make myself look silly.

Not a problem.

The Lowe's have been patient in waiting for me to find free time to get this online. I've even called in my server management firm at one point to help with a database issue I couldn't fathom. So we've all been doing the best we can as quick as we could do.

It's typical really, if it had gone down in say June, it'd have been back up within a day.

Sods law it goes down around Xmas.

Welcome to SW Dan, I've missed it so much, really hadn't realised how many times a day I pop in to see what's happening!

I think I'd hear of members committing suicide on some of my forums if it went down for long. Luckily they all know of the other forums we run so they'd just take over those ones until their usual one was back up. It'd have to be the end of the world for all my forums to be down at the same time. (Am I tempting fate there? Maybe the myans got the date wrong by a couple of weeks - aaaaaaah?!)
