Hello All and thanks for the warm welcome.

I now have my two four year old make horsfields which I am picking up tomorrow - very excited I can tell you.

We are setting up the vivarium tonight and I don't think me and my partner will sleep tonight with all the excitement - what a pair of kids !!!!!

As you will have read, I have kept torts but not for a long time, so I may be asking you all for a few pointers.

Hi Amanda,

Are you setting up a glass vivarium?????

If so these are not sutiable for housing tortoises.

Hiya, no its a wooden one with glass sliding doors at the front and plenty of ventilation, letting it settle down for a day and then going to pick up my boys - two Horsfields.

Amanda if you read through the forum you will see/find that Vivariums are not suitable for hosing for tortoises, we really try to get people to use a table top enclosure lots of ventilation and in most cases you can offer more room.

Vivs hold humidity and high temps (heat has difficulty escaping even with vents.

How old are your new horsfields

You will definately need accomadation that can offer a deeper substrate than a viv can then , look through the threads showing tables this will i'm sure convince to have a different outlook on housing them

have taken all comments on board and am adapting it.

have put more sub in and they are loving it.

Don't worry I love them too much to do anything stupid and harm them.

Other half is making an outside pen for summer until we can make the garden tort proof once again, when the good weather comes.

Do I worm them myself or is this a visit to the vets??

Hi Amanda,

You only need to worm if they have worms.

This is found out by your tortoise vet who is Hannah I beleive, screening the poo sample to see if worms are present or not.

Hannah is great and has a fantastic reputation, I am sure she will confirm the advice you have been given on here regarding housing etc...

I know you are adapting your viv now, but how big is it? What size are your 4 year old horselfields?
