2nd post about redfoot
Hi everyone...please help, I am very concerned about my redfoot. He has taken droncit in the past to get rid of the parasites and ever since then is when he is having problems pooping. I think it may be a side effect of the droncit maybe because now my other redfoot hasn't gone in awhile too. Please help, I'm not sure what else to do, I will try giving them a banana tomorrow for their fruit day because banana is high in fiber maybe that will help. I still soak them for as long as possible but nothing seems to be working. I am going to the vet on the 19th for a stool sample but it will be hard to give if they won't go. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated by me and my redfoots.

Hi Laura,
How are they eating? Has it gotten any less since the droncit? You did say that they went from watery stool to firm solid stool after the droncit. So they were both going. What is their diet like? Danny

HI Danny, thanks for the reply. They are still eating fine, and are still active. They did used to have watery and runny mucus stool before the droncit was given to them. After the droncit it seemed to be better, they had normal hard firm stools, but a couple days later they completely stopped and haven't seen the one redfoot poop in about week now. I am trying to soak them extra till hopefully he lets one out. They don't appear to be straining but its just starting to worry me that they havent gone in awhile. Hopefully the soaking works if not I'm not sure what to do, I have been soaking them for as long as possible till they start getting cranky but this time I will keep them in there a little longer see what happens. Any other advice?

They had probably emptied most their intestines when they had the watery stool. Food can take quite a while to pass through their system, so a week isn't long at all. I'd only be worried after 2 weeks or if they stopped eating. The stool will come.
I was looking up about flukes, which aren't common it tortoises. Do you keep your redfoots outside? and are there lots of snails in your yard? If there are your not going to be able to get rid of the flukes. The snails will be constantly reinfesting them with fluke. If you can keep the snails out they won't get the flukes again. Danny

Hi...they mainly stay indoors esp right now because its the Hawaii winter and it rains a lot and sometimes drops in the low 60s at night, so right now they are indoors in a 6 by 2 1/2 ft enclosure. I am not sure how they picked up the flukes, I did purchase them from a very bad petstore where they were living in pretty sad and harsh conditions. I just felt so bad for them living like that. I take them outside during the day and they roam around and maybe thats where they picked up the flukes, there are snails here but I havent seen more snails than usual.

You don't have to see tons of snails. Snails are one of the hosts for the fluke to complete it's life cycle. Thats where they did pick up the flukes was outside. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...3Doff%26sa%3DN

Thats pretty interesting...I will do my best to make sure there are no snails around my torts. On a happy note...both of my redfoots made a poo today, thank goodness! One did it on his own, the smaller one, the one who didnt go for a week went while he was being soaked for about 5 min. I am so happy...thanks for all your replys! I will keep you updated with his trip to the vet and his next stool sample. Thanks again! Me and my torts are much happier now
