Default Text speak

I have noticed there is a lot of text speak creeping onto the forum. Is this going to eventually become the norm?

I find it annoying and give up reading if I come across it. Am I alone?

I don't mind either way, if I'm on my phone on here I do it sometimes.

You're not alone. Unless you have an old mobile with buttons and no predictive text. It's easy to type properly on a keyboard or smart phone.

Thank goodness. I feel really strongly about the way the English language is being b a s t a r dised (had to put spaces in this word as the filter saw it as a swear word) lately. I feel a lot of this is down to the use of shortened forms of words. Young people seem to have lost the ability to spell. I also find it hard to read text speak as I am dyslexic, reading is not normally a problem so much any more, until I come across shortened words. I have to stop and work out what it means. It has taken me many years of hard work to get to the stage of spelling I am at now and I still have to spell check everything. So to have to try and work out everyday messages is quite annoying.

No it is quite annoying. In fact a forum rule is no text speak.

I'm with you on this, Wendy. I don't like text speak either. Perhaps I'm just old-fashioned and it's the home educator in me, but even when I send a text, I write it in full English.
Bad spelling annoys me too, as does incorrect use of apostrophes, but I try to ignore it on forums as people often type quickly and make mistakes without realising. Of course some people are just lazy too but it appears text language is creeping into everyone's psyche as I hear youngsters actually voice "OMG" and "lol"... I probably sound old and stuffy but I love the English language.
