Great discussion - thank you. Learning more and makes sense of everything. No wonder torts go into hiding when they have a new home or any change.

so interesting reading some of these posts and love hearing the stories. The programme was really good but hope there is more of tortoises to come. it would be a dream to travel there but I wish I had gone back in the day, (I travelled parts of SE ASia felt like the land time forgot, never saw Dougy though !!) so I am soo envious. A sheltered life book explores some of it also. 24 hours to go ! CB

I watched it again, and found it quite interesting , that they were walking along well worn tortoise tracks, that have been used by generations of tortoises to find food water and shade. Which suggests they are creatures of habit, which I think we notice with our own torts. And the wild ones, like our captive ones, don't like change, and live in the same locality for generations.
When I still lived at home ( parents) we had a very big garden, and when the torts escaped , often , they didn't run riot, no, they went the same way every time, into next doors veg patch, they new where to find the best food, and never changed their escape root.

Episode 2 was amazing, if you haven't watched it yet, then go and do it.
What an absolutely fabulous place Galápagos is. Next week, more about tortoises.
