Default Just brought the tortoise in.

I checked my Hermanni Hermanni this morning having left them in hibernation a little longer than planned following advice on the forum. This is my first year hibernating them and they appear ok. I have brought them into the house on a tortoise table due to the planned new run still being in progress (I have all the materials but have not yet started building) also the new greenhouse requires erecting.
I have bathed them and some of them have eaten a little food.
I will be continuing the bathing and feed a little but often to get them going. Whilst setting the table up I unfortunately broke the Arcadia bulb (good job I had a spare) this was an expensive and clumsy mistake on my part which I will try not to do again.
I am very happy with the shells at the moment with no signs of pyramiding although they are coming up to two years old in May.
Come April if the new run is not complete I will but them into my temporary enclosure.
This year I will be hibernating them using the fridge method and will be more comfortable in leaving them a little longer. (Crikey I have only got them up today and I am planning on hibernation for 2017)
I hope everyone's hibernation is successful.

thanks for such an informative update. It is an exciting time isn't it. Some of mine are still hibernating since September and as they are asleep I wont be getting some up til next week. woke one up today and she ate a little. Its not the hibernating, getting up and the sunbathing or the wind down its the in between that's the issue between the wake up and the outside! CB

Hi CB

I am a little surprised how exciting it is, none of us can stop looking at them. The room they were in had remained fairly constant throughout the winter but over the last few days the temp had risen and fluctuated between 9/13. I checked them when it was 9c and all was well however today I found another one on its back and another had climbed into the bubble wrapping which I had placed over the nesting/hibernation box.
The nicest surprise is how intense the colouring appears to be when I had wetted and bathed them. They are really coming along.

I have gotten a few of mine up but was hoping to keep the others down for a bit longer but by the noises they are making in their boxes they want up too.

its all go ! sorry to hear you broke your bulb too that's so frustrating.

some heavy weights are in their tortoise tables crashing down on the wood as they climb the walls...boom ! boom ! you have a riot Mary I have a boom box - just need drums now and the whole room will be alive like a bon jovi concert. I am going to be mean as pie and they biggies re all out tomorrow rain or shine. Temps will be at 11 degrees so they can stay in their cloches and consider their actions. Peace and tranquillity resumes...CB
