what age do tortoises become sexually active
hi my herman tort wilma is 4 years old what is the breeding age for them i dont want to breed im just intrested

Breeding depends on size not age, if tortoises are grown fast they can breed earlier. But this
can cause problems later on as they are not really mature enough to cope. If grown slowly then ten to fifteen years old, some a little before or after.

Hi,
If you think about a tortoise living a similar lifespan to ourselves, then you look at our own sexual maturity then this is what age a torotise should become sexually mature. Like Sandy says fast grown tortoises mature earlier but females especially have problems when grown too fast and bred too early. Ade

Thing to remember is males mature alot quicker than females, so its really important not to put a sub adult male with a sub adult randy male as he could cause her alot of damage.
