Choink,
that will be fine for overnight until there is no danger of frost, but they really need to be able to get outside during the day ASAP. Tortoises are roamers and like lots of space to wander around They also need heat and a UV source. Take a look at the housing pictures and get some ideas for an enclosure. Have you got a spotlamp you could shine on the guinea pig cage to enable them to warm up a bit before they go out side? |

i'm going to get working on their enclosure tomorrow after work, i've looked at the one other people have made on the forum and i've got a pretty good idea about what i am going to do to make it.
their cage is currently quite close to a radiator, will that be ok or do they need the bright light too? sorry if it sounds like a daft question, i'm just learning it all at the moment |

Torts need to bask, they need to do this under a heat source from above. The rad will help but they do need a light, you could use a normal 60w spot for now, do you have a desklamp or angle poise lamp?

They dont need night time heat so much, as long as it dont drop below 40f. The spot lamp is to warm them up before going out, at the moment temps are not that high first thing.

i dont have a lamp! i'll have to go and buy a desk lamp tomorrow. i'm so underprepared, but i didnt know i was going to get them this weekend until yesterday.
so in the mornings if i put a desk light on them when i get up then about an hour later before i go to work, i can then put them outside? |

Choink you are doing ok, you have a pair of nice torts, take things one step at a time, they have survived this long, you can make it better. It may help to Start using new threads for future questions.

i'm going to make them a run in my garden. my garden is quite big and would be hard to enclose, i also have plants that would be poisonous to them in it. the guinea pig run is too small for them in the day i think.
so i've had a look online and know what i am going to make them, i've bought some of the bits but i still need to get some cheap logroll. i'll make some new threads if i think of anything else, feel like i am taking over the board a bit with all my questions, but you have to start somewhere! |

Ask as many questions as you like, the're are lots of people here to help
Oops I think I deleted something from a previous reply, about putting them outside. I'm not sure it would be a good idea to put them outside in the G pig cage, they may be better indoors, I'm not sure, what do thers think?? Last edited by Bindi; 05-04-2009 at 09:08 PM. |
