Aside the work on the Angonoka, he also had a lot of experience with the Kapidolo Tortoise (Pyxis planicauda), and of course also the preliminary work with the Re re, (Erymnochelys madagascarensis). All three of these threatened Chelonia species, and their relevant projects I am pleased to say were supported by excellent help from the British Chelonia Group in the past. |

Hi Geomyda,
That would be cool. I did try to find out more about about Don Reid but run out of time. I would be more that happy to make the contact if possible. I will have a look. For more information (some quite old now) I have found some links for the ploughshare. 1) A captive breeding paper thats a bit old - no always nice but eye opening! http://www.tortoise.org/archives/yniphora.html 2) The IUCN red list report - very informative. (detailing the major threats to the animals at this point and historically) http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/details/9016/0 3)Honolulu Zoo - Brief buy some info on papers in the reference section. http://www.honoluluzoo.org/angonoka.htm 4) British Chelonia Group 2006 Appeal - The Ploughshare Tortoises Return Home http://www.britishcheloniagroup.org....ppeal_2006.htm Obviousy there is loads and loads more stuff to find out about these guys on the web, maybe if any more good bits arise then please post some links. Always good to learn more! Hope that this of some use! |
