I'm sure yours are grand Alison
Folk often ask me why their sunsets and sunrises don't turn out in the photo like the colours they actually see in real life. The reason is usually that folk just set the camera on auto and take all their photos in that mode. Sunrises/sunsets are quite easy to do and there are just a few things to follow. Composition - the sky is going to be the main part of the photo and anything else is more or less silhouette unless you are next to water for a good reflection. A good leafless or dead tree or even a person or a horse or anything recognisable does. If you can set the shutter speed manually try it in shutter priority mode at 125th of a second to start with and if too dark or too light adjust it accordingly. A faster shutter speed gives a darker picture and a slower one gives a lighter picture. If you can't set it manually then set it to sunset or sunrise mode and this will do the job much better than just auto. Take the photo before the sun actually rises or after the sun sets, it can also work if you just make sure the sun is not in the photo, the sun in the photo will just blow a white hole in the photo unless you use HDR methods. 5-15 mins before sunrise is a good time and after sunset, even half an hour after sunset. *Also, some broken cloud is what you want rather than a plain blue sky, before the sun rises and after it sets it lights up those clouds red Last edited by Alan1; 12-01-2014 at 09:39 PM. |

Thanks for the tips Alan
This is my one of the sunset, I didnt even get out of the car so it was just a quick shot literally, however I did set the camera on sunset mode! I will try the other settings next time. That lump in the middle of mine is quite distracting, I will try to get a stag next time |
