Anyone been to Bulgaria?
It's not me that's going but I went on the online banking to order cash for Bulgaria and there were 2 options, Bulgarian New Lev or US Dollars. It says on the bank site..
Exchange rate: 1GBP =1.607 USD Please note, we recommend United States Dollar for visiting this country (please exchange local currency at your destination). So if you have been, what did you take? |

I would guess that, like many smaller countries with, as a result, smaller economies, that the $ is used for the tourism industry more, and the Lev is still used in shops, restaurants etc., and you'll probably get a better rate with it, if you don't loose too much in poor conversion rates. Probably bring a mix of the two.
Btw, that's a really poor rate for the $, last time I looked-a couple of days ago-, you could easily get 1.65/1.66
