Well done Alan. Keep the Tips coming, I'm getting my new laptop and sons desktop next week, although my son is point blank refusing to windows 8/8.1, he wants to get a windows 7.

If you get version 8.0, before you start installing anything else on it it's best to update to version 8.1. I'm not sure how many ways there is of doing that, I looked up Google to get it from the Microsoft website but it might now be part of windows updates, not sure.
If you ignore the Apps screen on Windows 8.0/8.1 and just keep it on desktop view, it looks pretty much the same as W7. The apps screen is just nonsense, all they are are oversized icons scattered about the screen which in all previous windows versions were listed in the programmes menu or on the desktop. When you get used to it you can via right click options, pin your most used ones to the taskbar and/or desktop. Can't say I've found anything yet that I could say was an improvement on any previous windows version |
