Not 100% sure on their ages.

Suet
Age - 6/7 ? years
SCL - 11.7cm
Weight -300g

Myrtle
Age - 6/7? years
SCL - 10.1cm
Weight - 210g

According to The McIntyre ratio my two are on the low end, should i be worried?

Age matters when we are comparing with each other, e.g. if someone buys a 10 year old tortoise and they are not sure if it's the correct size or weight they can check against the results of others and see if it is within the same range. If we only recorded the size and weight then a tortoise fed on an incorrect diet might only be the same size and weight as a younger tortoise due to improper growth, this way it gives us a better idea of the condition of our torts.

Those are two seperate variables. You might want to start another thread as to the size and age. Age has nothing to do with weight. A 4 cm tortoise should weigh the same regardless if it is 2 years old or 10 years old. Each individual tortoise is going to grow at a different rate depending on nutritional intake, environmental conditions and personality. The owner controls the first two factors for the most part and that adds to the problem of 'proper' growth rate.

If you looked at the results in my first then you would see that is not true, there are Tortoises of the same length with varying weights. Helen M's tort is estimated 15-20 years, is almost the same length as my 6 year old but is almost twice the weight, how can you say that age does not come into the equation?

Owner: Helen M

April.

Age: 15-20

Size: 135mm

Weight: 605g

---------------------

Alfie.

Age: 6

Size: 127mm

Weight: 390g

--------------------

Owner: PumpkinPie

Bruce.

Age: 5-6

Size: 123mm

Weight: 375g

The only logical conclusion is that your tortoise is under weight. The weights are going to vary depending on how well it is hydrated, when it eats, how much it eats, when it deposits waste, how much waste it deposits...

From a common sense standpoint, again, a 4 cm tortoise should have the same body mass regardless if it is 4 or 40 years old.

Please actually read the results, it's obvious that you're not bothering to read things through properly.

There are bound to be different subspecies present within this list of Horsfields, from Danny's thread it is obvious that some are more rounded, domed or can be quite flat therefore this will affect their weights at a particular SCL. Maybe evaluating the weights for subspecies would be more realistic?
