Blackbirds nest
I have been watching a pair of blackbirds building a nest in a tree in my front garden. Today I was out there and the female flew past me, just missing my head. I went and had a look at the nest and this is what I found.

I will. I think I might have to cut the black string/tape in the nest. I had to cut a female blackbird free of a nest that had one of those fat ball string bag things in it. It was wrapped around her legs.

Such pretty blue eggs.
I hope they hatch and you can enjoy watching the parents feed them.

Oh wow - you wouldn't think they'd nest in that tree, but it must be good enough. Enjoy watching them, Wendy.

No, neither did I Emma. We nearly cut it down after that winter as it was so badly damaged by the weather that all the leaves were dead. But I looked it up and found that if you take the top off it will regrow. So many people just dug theirs up, such a shame. We had a lot of them round here as they grow well on the coast.

It's a Cordyline. Has lovely fragrant flower spikes in the summer. You can smell them as you walk out the door.

We have a Cordyline too but it's grown very differently. Ours got very tall before it branched out into a typical Torbay Palm style. We thought it would stay small when we bought it but it's a feature of the garden now and my eldest has a nesting box on it which gets used every year by either the Great Tits or Blue Tits.
