Why sometimes pre-alpin food is preferred by others?

A few years a go there weren't many tort keepers that would touch pellets with a barge pole, or at least admit to it.
Things are a changing, the Pre Alpin stuff is supposed to be high fibre, low protein and doesn't contain any additives. I think people see it as being a more natural product than some of the other pellets on the market.

I still feed a complete pellet meal once or twice a week as a supplement plenty of natural fibre/plant's other day's. There are a few more choices now with a weekly feed. It is after reading up what you prefare to feed. A lone fresh plant diet you will need to have available about 10-20 different plant's/weeds constant to copy this. New keeper's find this a bit daunting at first and takes time to grow or recognise, so an alternative feed can help.

you can also make your own but it's a bit more hassle

you would know exactly what's in it though. I don't know how the pre alpin is harvested, if by hand (which I doubt since it is a large scale operation) then no toxic plants are likely to be in it. if by combine type machinery then I don't know if it could detect plants like ragwort or similar

My tortoises prefer to eat the pre alpin rehydrated but a lot of people are sprinkling the dried foods onto the washed hand picked weeds and their tortoises are eating it that way. Everyone so far has agreed that the tortoises faeces is much more fibrous. Will be good for the colder months when weeds are less available.

http://www.shelledwarriorsshop.co.uk...ost-1625-p.asp

Is this basically the same thing as pre-alpin food selling elsewhere? I would like to get some for my tort. There are also different version of the pre-alpin products, e.g. Pre Alpin Fibre/Baby/Herbs...what's the actual difference between them, and what's best to feed baby tort?

One other thing about these dried food - do the nutrients lost during the drying process? or still retained in the plant?
