I have just measured Sid and weighed her on Hannahs advice, she is 260 mm long and 3.3 kg. I had to weigh her on my bathroom scales because she is to heavy for my kitchen ones. My husband got on the scales first, then again holding Sid. Looking on the Jacksons ratio she is heavier than she should be!! My vet thinks she is a whitei. I just compared her to photo's on the internet. Many af them look the same!!

Fingers crossed for you and your tortoise Jackie.
This year has been particularly bad for tortoises, mine also are slowing down suddenly big time.

Jackie, is this the same tortoise that has been walking around in circles with its head in its shell and been disorientated recently. Now it sounds as though it cant stand and is depressed. these symptoms if presented to me would have me pulling the tortoise out of your hands to investigate whats happening. What are your plans? Hibernation? hope it picks up? i would not be taking these chances with my torts. Ok it may be something and nothing. can you afford to take that chance? Blood testing would give you some more peace of mind if nothings wrong... or save its life if something is. I will post no further on this topic unless asked; all i can do is tell you what i would do

I hope Sid gets better soon, thinking of you at this difficult time. I got my thing from Dazza, I have a clamp light with mega ray, works for me. Very quick with delivery.

I have recommend bloods for Sid, alot of torts have had a poor year if mainly "garden" orientated. I would never recommend hibernating a tort with unusual behaviour or any signs of being unwell. However, this summer has been particularly poor and many torts are winding down early. The choice is full work up vet wise, or maximize heat/light/bathing initiallly for few days and then seek vet if not improving? Some of my torts are bedding down early despite the tables, I feel the air "coldness" if you get what I mean is a factor. Ive done full work up on mine and they are ok, just one has decided she wants to sleep!! the main problem is that if they go down now, we will all have to wake them early and be faced with a similar problem?? The joys of torts!! It would be interesting to see how many of you are experiencing same thing, I've had 8 torts in this week "slowing down" early. ( with excellent diet, husbandry etc)

My adults are doing the same Hannah, it does seem just this week its more noticable. The weather if foul, not sure heating is having much affect, as you say they are sensing the colder, dulller weather we are having. I am sure light levels have something to do with it too.
