Thanks for your reply Marcus. The one on the left (Sheldon) was pyramiding when I got him in August and since I got him the pyramiding has thankfully stopped. I got him from a pet shop who were feeding purely pellets so I think thats what caused it. I am hoping that by the time he is fully grown a lot of the pyramiding would have smoothed out. The hide they sleep in is kept humid with moss in, and they also have a humid corner with moss in at one side of their table, this is always damp. Thank you for your advice, I am trying hard to stop Heidi (on the right) from pyramiding as I have had her from 2 months old. I feed them twice a day with weeds and salad and over winter they have pellets 2 - 3 times a week but in the summer that will only be about once a week.

I'm not convinced that a slow shell growth is necessary for good shell growth, it's more about the right husbandry, temps, diet, supplements and a humid hide. I have torts living together in the same conditions and some grow faster than others and it makes no difference to the shell growth, they all have good shells. In the wild some tortoises will grow with a slightly bumpy shell or slightly deformed shells. I think your torts are looking fine. Shelldons shell will ease out has she grows now she's getting the correct diet and conditions.

Thanks Suze . The temps are 34 degrees under the heat lamp and about 20-25 in the cool end but they are never really there unless they are asleep. They have nutrobal 3 times a week and calcium the other days and have mainly salad at the minute as theres not a great deal of weeds around here. So I think I am getting things right .... I'm glad they are looking ok

I had 2 male tortoises both kept in exactly the same conditions, same food and everything one had a lumpy shell and the other didn't, the one with a lumpy shell was a big eater the one with a smooth shell wasn't and seemed to put on weight slowly, hence the smooth shell.
