Wild Flower seeds
Sorry for this. I have been given a packet of Mediterranean wild flower seed mix.
Now I'm just wondering if anyone whos good with plants/flowers could tell me which ones of these are toxic. Antirrhinum, Asperula, Bupleurum, Calendula, Chrysanthemum, Cladanthus, Convolvulus, Delphinium, Echium, Fedia, Iberis, Lavatera, Legousia, Linaria, Linum, Lobularia, Lonas, Malva, Nigella, Papaver, Reseda, Roemeria, Silene, Viscaria. I know its a lot sorry, some of them I know are toxic like Chrysanthemum and Delphinium as well as some being obviously edible - Lavatera, Malva and Calendula, but must I have never heard of. Help!

Antirrhinum, fine as far as i know
Asperula, no possibly toxic Yes, Nina, like it's relative Galium asparine (Cleavers) it contains coumarin, the active ingredient of Warfarin. It's an anti-coagulant and if taken in excess can lead to internal bleeding and death. So a mouthful probably wouldn't hurt but as I don't know how many would I wouldn't risk it! Martin Bupleurum, not sure Bupleurum is a very large genus of plants of the Apiaceae Cladanthus, possibly not its part of the daisy family Convolvulus, the Greater Bindweed or White Convolvulus (C. sepium). Not suitable for tortoises as it contains a cardiac glycoside (a toxin that affects the heart). Delphinium, toxic Fedia, http://www.ibiblio.org/pfaf/cgi-bin/...ia+cornucopiae Linaria, Linaria purpurea is also slightly toxic to livestock. Linum, some are toxic http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Linum+perenne http://www.pfaf.org/database/search_...ALLNAMES=Linum Lobularia, http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants....laria+maritima Nigella, http://www.pfaf.org/database/search_...LNAMES=Nigella Papaver is a genus of poppies, belonging to the Poppy family , Reseda, http://www.pfaf.org/database/search_...LLNAMES=Reseda Roemeria, Roemeria refracta DC. spotted Asian poppy Silene, saponins http://www.pfaf.org/database/search_...NAMES=campion+ i hope this helps in your research pete |
