Can only agree with what has already been said. You should read this book.

I have started it and what an interesting book. So far looking at how the tortoise evolved and how so many are persecuted

Fascinating about the bladder of the desert tortoise of the American Southwest.

They talk of the various types of tortoises ... apart from Lonesome George, which ones are almost extinct now? A book hard to put down I must say

I am now at the chapter where they discuss researchers in central Africa studying chimpanzees ..."apes forage for tortoises as well. Lacking the teeth and claws needed to penetrate the shell, a chimpanzee that comes across one ... uses his hands to smash the tortoise. It is not yet clear if this is done by smashing the tortoise against the ground ... or by employing rocks as hammers to bash open the shells. Either way, the apes crush their prey and get at the sweet meat inside."

I never knew apes ate tortoises ...

Homo sapiens have been doing it for centuries, only trouble is, now with a hard currency they are eating them out of existence !!!
