These Cuora amboinensis, when I first started keeping them twenty five years ago, were considered to be one of the commonest South east Asian turtle species. However, in the years since they have been dramatically exploited in the Asian food markets. Some of the most graphic images of horror taken in these markets are Malayan box turtles whom have been literally pulverised, to the point of near oblivion.

I've just received this years edition of the TSA magazine there is an article in there about the pet markets in China and its unbelieveable how some of the rearest chelonia in the world are just there in small tanks or tubs, very upsetting.

indeed it is!
There is talk, of an international Chelonia conference being organised during the autumn of next year.
