Default What are the symptoms of RNS?

I'm curious, my tort made a gurgling sound and sneezed. I've only had him for four days and I'm very anxious about looking after him properly as he's my first tortoise...I'm sure it's nothing and I'm worrying too much, best be safe than sorry though.

Thanks

a runny nose and bubbles from the nose. wheezing develops too I think. a lot of folks panic about a sneeze and stuff but bubbles is what you would notice

Hi Pumpkinpie, my wee tort is being treated for RNS at the minute, it was the bubbles from the nose i noticed, She was pulling her head in and blowing bubbles. The vet gave her and injection and i have to give her antibiotic drops. She had no other symptons, eating normally etc.

Hope your torts ok x

blowing bubbles from nose, runny nose, sometimes mouth gapes open if having breathing difficulties. Just keep an eye in it; I'm sure it'll be fine. Sometimes after a bath, or eating food, can cause bubbles to appear but that's nothing to worry about.

If you're hearing noise... it's most likely not RNS. What you describe is an upper respiratory problem... not the same thing.

If the tortoise is lethargic you might want to consider a vet visit.

RNS is an upper respiratory problem ?it can also affect the lower respiratory tract

It can be but there are circumstances where it is unexplaned... hence the name Runny Nose Syndrome... which is the point I was trying to make. One case you have to take immediate action and take it to the vet and the other case it is not much of a worry except that the tortoise should be isolated in both cases.

So, just to be clear when do we need to take immediate action and when is it not so serious? Can the not so serious be serious if you don't take the necessary action? Just so I know what I'm looking out for!
